Although Emily is somewhat stuck in her ways, we get the impression Emily regards Nina as an accessory, but would like to be a better friend. Emily defines the “fair weather friend” mentality. It’s not that she’s incapable of deeper relationships, she’s possibly afraid of securing a deeper friendship with Nina, because maintaining the “fun” and bubbly, charismatic persona has become who people think she is. It’s a curse as well as a blessing. Emily is brash, unafraid and the centre of attention. If only she was happy inside as she is outwardly.
