The Production manager is a proactive, editorially aware and meticulously organised individual who plays an important role in the technical and editorial aspects of video production, balancing technical know-how with editorial savviness.

They work closely with the newsgathering, futures, show production, and Field Engineering teams to increase the production value of our daily news stories and coverage of events and breaking news. 

The position is responsible for contributing to the planning process for breaking news and long-term projects often acting as the go between with editorial and technical, ensuring that the proper resources are available and then works as the stories unfold to keep on top of the coverage needs.

This will include major set piece events and special projects.

The Daily

  • Work closely and communicate well with newsdesk, futures, shows, control room operations and media coordinators in the facilitation of news coverage out of the London bureau, EMEA and beyond including at times assisting with special events and the needs of feature and sponsored shows, Digital, creative services and sport. Includes the scheduling of cameramen and editors.
  • Field Assignment Execution: Oversee crews and equipment logistics and organisation including planning and executing field assignments, both pre-planned and breaking news- including but not limited to budgeting, logistics, contact building, and on-the-ground oversight of the field team(s)
  • Logistical Support: Ensuring that the resources that are required for us to react quickly (visas, logistics, accreditations) are all up to date. To work ahead on-site surveys, contact building and editorial planning of major event coverage. Ensure seamless and compelling coverage across all CNN platforms with no logistical impediments to fast reactions of teams to breaking news and events.
  • Co-ordinating closely and building solid relationships across the News Group-the regional, international and US bureaus, and digital/social- ensuring their coverage needs are met and exceeded
  • Breaking news: Responding quickly and proactively to priorities and needs across the News
  • Group. Shoring up deployments, and logistics in the aftermath of breaking news. To ensure a robust operation is in place in the immediate aftermath of a breaking news event that can execute effectively to all needs.
  • Planned projects: Ensuring coverage plans are well defined and full details are outlined in documented fashion. Responsible for projecting and determining cost information for coverage. Facilitating clear guidance to the field teams.
  • Provide guidance to the Media Coordination team, create new workflows, build the team.
  • Knowledge of field safety issues and the well-being of the teams on assignment are a vital part of the CC responsibilities. Full knowledge of company policies and practices and their effective enforcement are also a part of the CC’s oversight. Working with the Security team to make sure that the safety equipment and risk assessment procedures for traveling crews are followed.
  • Bring creative ideas to our coverage to enhance our on-air look.
  • Oversees management of Media Coordination team.
  • Accountable for freelance backfill hire costs and gear hire.​
